Bou remains series leader with victory and second place in Andorra

The Repsol Honda Team rider wins Sunday’s race after a second place yesterday. Takahisa Fujinami places seventh and fourth.

The TrialGP World Championship contested two races this weekend at the Andorran GP. Toni Bou left the event as series leader, as he took his fourth win from six races this season on Sunday in Sant Julià de Lòria, after a second place on Saturday. His teammate Takahisa Fujinami, who suffered a crash yesterday, finished seventh and fourth.

On a first day affected by rain, Bou fought for victory with Adam Raga. Although he led the way until the middle of the day, he finished second at the end of the three laps of the Andorran circuit. Today Bou retaliated, claiming the win by a 20-point margin. The Spaniard now leads the standings by 10 points, with two races remaining at the final round in Italy.

Fujinami suffered a crash on Saturday in which he injured his shoulder, and was only able to finish seventh. However, the Japanese rider overcame the discomfort on Sunday and only just missed out on the podium by 2 points. He occupies eighth position in the overall standings with 44 points.

The decisive final round of the TrialGP World Championship will be held on October 9th and 10th in Italy.

TONI BOU

“Today was similar to yesterday: I was a little better on the first and second lap. The zones were difficult, so I was able to gain an advantage. On the last lap I rode more on the limit, perhaps, so I am very happy with this victory. I think the key was Zone 5, which I was able to get through without errors, while Adam Raga scored 5 points on each lap. I was much more aggressive today than yesterday and that showed with the result. Altogether it has been a very positive weekend.”

TAKAHISA FUJINAMI

“After yesterday’s crash, in which my shoulder was hurt, I want to thank the whole team -and especially the physiotherapist- for helping make everything go well today. Today I started out with the pace I was running yesterday on the second and third lap, which was more similar to the pace that I am used to in races. I made some mistakes, but I think I managed to recover from them. It is the first race that I have been comfortable in, and you can see that by the results, since I was just off the podium. Now there are only two races left, but we are all very close together and there is still a chance. We will give everything in the final races.”
