British GP. 2nd qualifying practice. Driver´s comments

Nieto: ‘I would like to win this race, because it will be very important for my morale’.
Valentino Rossi, 1st: For sure I didnt expect a pole position. Today I need to thank the Mobile Clinic – Dr Costa and my physio Marco Montanari. They did good work on me. I took something for the pain I have a headache but not much more. I also have to thank my team who worked so hard on the bike. Its great to make this position with one day less practice than I am used to. Im lucky. The crash was hard and basically OK. Tohru Ukawa, did not started. Noriaki Nakata, the Repsol Honda team manager said; Tohru is still pretty sore after yesterdays crash and as a totally precautionary measure we, with Tohru, have decided it is best for him not to race at Donington, and concentrate on being fit for the next race at the Sachsenring, in Germany, next weekend. Fonsi Nieto, 1st: Only a few minutes before the end of qualifying Toni and I came into the pits to fit softer tyres to try to improve our lap times. I wanted Toni to get behind me, so I could help him, and in this way improve both our lap times. I gave him a signal to follow me quickly before Locatelli could get in between us, but it seems he misunderstood me, and he lost my tow. Instead Alzamora got in behind me, and he got the benefit instead. I didnt think he could follow me, but he rode very fast, and I am happy that I am not the only Spanish rider on the front row. It is good to have more Spanish riders up at the front. Elias has demonstrated that he is prepared to fight with us, and Emilio can also help us in the war. For tomorrow, we have a good setting, although we still have to decide on final race tyre choice. If I can get a good start tomorrow, and Melandri comes with me, it will be very difficult to escape. I would like to win this race, because it will be very important for my morale, and I also want to regain the points lead that I lost at the last GP. Toni Elias, 5th: I am a little disappointed because I couldnt improve my time of yesterday. In the final session I just wasnt as comfortable as yesterday with my bike. We made some small changes to the settings, which had the opposite effect of improving the performance. It was a pity that in the last stages the other riders took the front row positions. Weve been working hard all weekend, and I was always up at the front but this afternoon it was too difficult for me to improve on yesterdays time, although I was within one tenth of it. Tomorrow we will go back to yesterdays setting, and if I get a good start I think I will be able to follow Fonsi and Melandri, because my rhythm all weekend has been fast and constant. Daniel Pedrosa, 3rd: We had a lot of problems with the rear suspension, and that meant we werent able to improve on yesterdays lap time. On the final lap I came upon a crashed rider in the middle of the hairpin, which ruined that last chance to improve & but in any case I am not worried. Starting from the first row is very important here, because I guess well be racing in a group, and the braking will be difficult. I dont think it will be possible to escape, although Ui did it last year. The most important goal is to get some points, because this is a dangerous circuit, and there have been many crashes. Joan Olive, 6th: I am very happy with the work that my crew has done, because they were able to solve yesterdays problems. Today the bike was perfect & although in the early part of qualifying it was sliding a bit. The timing for the grid is very, very close, with 16 riders separated by less than a second. So it is impossible to make any prediction for tomorrow. I can only promise that I will give my maximum, and Ill try to prove that my Assen result was not just a mirage.
