Favourable diagnostic for Nani Roma at the Institut Dexeus hospital in Barcelona
He has no serious injuries and he will not have to undergo surgery
Nani Roma, who yesterday dawn was admitted at the Instituto Dexeus hospital in Barcelona, appeared today in front of the media at a press conference in which, together with Doctor Josep María Vilarubias and Doctor Xavier Mir, he talked about the extent of his injuries. Fortunately his physical injuries are slight and he will not have to undergo surgery. Nani Roma stated in front of all those present, that he feels well, after spending so many days alone in hospitals, from one helicopter to another and from one plane to another, the truth is that it feels great to be back home. Knowing that the people who are taking care of you are very competent and the fact that they tell you that you have nothing serious is very satisfying, it puts your mind at ease and cheer you up a bit after the disappointment of having to give up the race. In the end, thats all it is about, to be all right, because this is only sports and a race, the most important thing is life.’ Doctor Vilarubias himself stated that, ‘after the medical and radiological exams, as well as the corresponding resonance and the CAT scan, we can confirm that fortunately, Nani Romas injuries are not serious and therefore it will be not necessary for him to undergo surgery. As a diagnostic we can say that the patient suffers a fracture of the ulnar styloid of his right wrist. The fracture is so tiny that it is almost impossible to operate on it and it wouldnt mean any kind of time saving. Furthermore, Nani suffers a partial rupture of the ligament that is connected to the scaphoid. According to Doctor Mir, he will have to use a plaster bandage that will completely immobilize his wrist for approx. eight or ten days and then hell change it for a kind of plastic glove, very thin, that will allow him to restart the training. With regard to the back trauma, the patient has a huge haematoma, but we havent seen injuries either in the CAT scan or in the radiographies taken. We think that hell be able to leave hospital in 24 or 48 hours.’
