Repsol Honda Team rider achieved half century of wins in the World Championship at Motegi, also matching Angel Nieto’s 139 podiums.
The spectacular victory for Dani Pedrosa at the Japanese Grand Prix allowed the Repsol Honda Team rider to reach the remarkable figure of 50 victories in Grand Prix racing: 8 in 125cc, 15 in 250cc and 27 in MotoGP. The figure puts him amongst the top 8 riders with the most victories in the World Championship; a list headed by Giacomo Agostini, Valentino Rossi and Angel Nieto.
His first victory came in the 125cc class at the 2002 Dutch TT, aged 16 and in his second season in the World Championship. Since that victory, Pedrosa has continued to accumulate wins every year, taking three world titles along the way: 1 in 125cc –in 2003– and 2 in 250cc –in 2004 and 2005. He has also been runner-up three times in MotoGP –in 2007, 2010 and 2012. In his 14 years at the elite of motorcycle racing, the seasons with the most wins for the Repsol Honda rider have been 2005, with 8 wins, and 2004/2012, with 7 victories.
With this victory, Pedrosa joins a select group of riders who have reached fifty wins ‒a list that also includes the likes of fellow multiple champs such as Agostini, Nieto and Rossi.
