The Repsol Honda Team rider, Dani Pedrosa, was successfully operated on this lunchtime for the chip fracture (four fragments) of his left collarbone at USP Dexeus in Barcelona. Dr. Mir, Dr. Marlet and Dr. Ginebreda carried out the surgical procedure which lasted two hours and, during which, a fixation was performed with a titanium plate specially designed for the collarbone, with 8 holes, and a fixation of the intermediate fragments with two compression screws.
During the surgery, stress X-rays were performed in the operating theatre on his left ankle and a grade 1 ligamentous injury was diagnosed, ruling out more serious damage. The Repsol rider, who was admitted to USP Dexeus this morning at 10:00 after his trip from Japan where he fell during yesterday’s free practice at Motegi, will remain at the medical facility for between 24 and 48 hours.

“The operation went very well. Dani [Pedrosa] had a four fragment chip fracture of the left collarbone and, together with Doctors Marlet and Ginebreda, we have performed a fixation with a titanium plate, made especially for the collarbone. We have fixed the two intermediate fragments with two compression screws. Regarding the left ankle, while in surgery, we performed another stress x-ray and saw that we were dealing with a grade 1 ankle sprain, which will heal in a short space of time. The rider is recently out of surgery and I think we must wait at least 48 hours, after which time, if all goes well, we may begin rehabilitation. At this time, it´s not possible to give precise dates for recovery”.
