Double win for Toni Bou in Malaga

The Repsol rider dominated the X-Trial World Championship and the Spanish Indoor Championship in the Andalusian round. Takahisa Fujinami, in third, accompanied him on the podium.

The Repsol rider, Toni Bou, took yesterday another step forward in his fight to achieve his seventh indoor World Title by winning the Malaga Indoor Trial –third round of the season–, increasing his record to 19 consecutive victories in this Championship. Two rounds away from the end of the season, the Repsol rider leads with an advantage of 24 points. Bou’s victory was double, as the Malaga Indoor Trial started the new edition of the Spanish Championship, where the several times champion also defends his title.

Winner of the last two X-Trial rounds this season, Bou secured his victory in the first phase, by gathering 11 points less than his closest rival. In the second phase, he improved his record, receiving only 2 points and finishing with a total advantage of 21 points over the second, Albert Cabestany. The third place on the podium was for his team mate in the Repsol Montesa Honda Team, Takahisa Fujinami, who achieved his second consecutive podium, this time tied with Cabestany. The result allowed the Japanese rider to jump up two positions in the overall standings and he is now in the top three.

The fourth round of the X-Trial World Championship will take place next March 23rd in Bielefeld (Germany).

Toni Bou,
“It was an amazing evening; I had virtually no trouble and felt very comfortable on the bike. Under those conditions, my confidence in myself and in the work we are doing increases. I have a comfortable lead in the Championship, I could not deny that, but there are still 40 points up for grabs and nothing is settled. So we will continue as we did until now. In Germany I will focus on achieving another victory to secure the final triumph. This beginning of the season has been perfect, as I lead the three Championships I have started. I could not ask for more.”

Takahisa Fujinami,
“With this second consecutive podium I am now be completely satisfied. My confidence is increasing and I am able to tackle zones that I could not have faced before, which is very positive. Taking the third position of the Championship is great and I will do my best to keep it in the next two final rounds. Nevertheless, I don’t want to be obsessed with that aim, I will face each zone and each race one by one and we’ll see what happens in the end.”
