Eleventh position for Arón Canet

Tyre problems put Repsol rider down the order, in a race in which Bastianini crashed 9 laps from the chequered flag

Arón Canet started fourth and was riding in the leading group on the opening laps –taking the lead on Lap 2.

After the first third of the race, his rear tyre suffered excessive wear and he lost touch with the first group. He was then in the second group until he crossed the finish line eleventh.

Enea Bastianini came back from fifteenth on the grid to ninth on Lap 11. Two laps later he crashed at Turn 5, before remounting to finish the race twenty-seventh.

“It was a shame, because we were fighting back little by little, with a good feeling. We put on the hard rear tyre, which at the end of the race would have been ideal, knowing that at first it would be a little more difficult than for our rivals. It was a real shame, because I was able to brake very hard, but in other places I struggled more than I should. That’s what happened to me with my crash; I opened my line a little and, to avoid another rider who had gone wide at Turn 5, I had to pick the bike up. As I accelerated into the dirty area, I lost rear grip and the bike spat me over the handlebars. It is not a good result, but we are positive because during the weekend we have taken steps forward and gained confidence with the front end.”

“Today I think we were in a position to fight for the win and to finish on the podium. We started very well, in the front group and leading the race for the first time this season, but I think we had a defective tyre. We have to finish looking at it, because we had tried long runs at this circuit and at no time did what happened in the race occur before then. From the sixth lap it was as if I was running had a wet setup, as when exiting the corners it was impossible to accelerate, the bike moved a lot, and I was slipping everywhere. It is not the result we were hoping for, but the important thing is that we have scored points.”
