Fabio Quartararo wins at home

The French rider achieved a crushing victory at the FIM CEV Repsol race that took place in his country. Spaniard Gabriel Rodrigo and Japanese Hiroki Ono finished second and third, respectively in the first international round of the Championship.

The mythical circuit of Le Mans held the first race of the FIM CEV Repsol out of Spain. Accompanying the World Championship, the series had its second round of the year, where Fabio Quartararo was the star. The French rider won in front of his fans and takes the lead of the Championship with a 24-points advantage over the second, Gabriel Rodrigo, and 25 over the third, his team mate Maria Herrera.

The Moto3 race –that was reduced to 9 laps due to an incident at the start between Italian Davide Pizzoli and Makar Yurchenko– was a show dominated by the local rider Fabio Quartararo. The French rider started from the second place of the grid, but quickly took the lead, followed only by his team mate María Herrera, who crashed in the second lap. During the rest of the race Quartararo dominated with a comfortable margin over his rivals, who fought for the other two steps of the podium. In the end, Fabio reached the chequered flag in first position, followed by Gabriel Rodrigo in second and the Japanese rider Hiroki Ono, in third.

With this result, the FIM CEV Repsol overall standings will arrive to the next round, on June 8th at MotorLand Aragón, with Fabio Quartararo in the lead with an advantage of 24 points over Gabriel Rodrigo, second, and 25 over Maria Herrera, third.

“The first start was cancelled due to a crash involving several riders. The second went well. I was able to build a good advantage from the first lap and then I focused on keeping a good pace until the end. Everything went well during the nine laps we finished, but I’d like to do more laps with the pace I had today. I’m very happy to have won in my country and in front of my fans.”
