García Dols finishes second in Valencia

The Repsol Moto3 rider takes to the podium at the European Grand Prix, after climbing five positions during the race. Ryusei Yamanaka finishes sixteenth.

Sergio García Dols, who started seventh on the starting grid, claimed a spot on the podium at the thirteenth round of the Moto3 World Championship. The Spaniard had a consistent race on what was a difficult surface due to the weather conditions, setting a steadily increasing pace to take the chequered flag in second.

Teammate Ryusei Yamanaka started from the tenth row of the grid. He would finish sixteenth, just 0.0083s from the points. The Repsol Moto3 rider made a good start which allowed him to fight in the middle group.

García Dols now lies 14th in the overall standing with 57 points, whilst Ryusei Yamanaka is 24th with 13.

SERGIO GARCÍA DOLS – 2nd

“It was a crazy race. We pushed hard at the start and I was still fighting with some riders in sixth and seventh position which didn’t allow me to move up the order. Then I was able to climb positions and stay between third and fourth which was crucial. At the end I was able to attack at the last moment. Getting onto the podium is incredible, since it has been a very hard year for me, besides the situation we are experiencing around the world. This result has come through hard work. It’s a strange feeling on the podium, because you don’t see the crowd and you don’t hear anything, but I’m still very happy.”

RYUSEI YAMANAKA – 16th

“I started the race from thirtieth position, but got off the line very well. I was able to gain some positions on the opening laps. Nevertheless, my race pace at the beginning was not very good and that made it difficult for me to stay in the group. At the end of the race my pace improved, and on the final laps I was able to catch the group in front of me. It wasn’t enough to progress further and gain some more places though. Hopefully next week will be better for us.”
