The Catalonia Champion of Circuit Regulatory, José Luís Marcó, demonstrated that he is one of the rally drivers to watch, after classifying among the leaders of his class in the 58th edition of Rally Costa Brava, held last weekend. Fernando Lobón was another of the Repsol Classic Team riders who stood out, while Carlos de Miguel had to drop out due to an oil leak on his Alpine 1.6. Miguel Arias, in a similar car, could not start due to a broken gearbox.
Marcó, accompanied by Mónica Pérez-Zorrilla, managed to maintain the high averages set by the organisation by getting the most out of the power of his Porsche 911. On the first night, after the two tours of the Cladells and Collsaplana sections, he was in the leading five, despite a slight bump to his front right wing. On the last day of the race, he was deprived of reaching the leading positions after spinning in the fourth special stage.
The team made up of Fernando Lobón and Luisa Alfaro was another of the outstanding teams, behind the wheel of their Volkswagen Golf GTi. The couple from Castellon started with very good times on the first night, when they were able to make up for the lower power of the engine with their skills behind the wheel, on the slippery tarmac. However, in the second part of the rally, they were affected by a breakdown in the engine lubrication system, forcing them to drive more prudently in order to finish the race.
After Costa Brava, the next stop for the Repsol Classic Team will be the Rally Comunidad de Madrid, which will be held on the last weekend of November, organised by the Royal Automobile Club of Spain. This classic event will include the most historic timed stretches in central Spain, such as Canencia, Morcuera, Navafría or El Atazar, along with several tours of the Jarama circuit.
