The Repsol Honda Team rider achieved a crushing win and will face tomorrow’s decisive day with a 12-point advantage. Fujinami finished in fifth.
At the eighth and last GP of the season, Toni Bou achieved an all-important victory that gets him closer to the Outdoor Trial World Title for the eight year in a row. The Repsol Honda Team rider has now an advantage of 12 points over Adam Raga before the last race of the Trial World Championship that will take place tomorrow.
The day started with a lot of pressure and Toni Bou was the first of the only two candidates for the title that made a mistake and received points. Despite that, the rider from Piera did not give up and in the following zones he started to make the difference over his rivals, that were not able to overcome the obstacles he mastered, In the second lap, the Repsol Honda Team rider had almost secured a win he confirmed at the end of the third and last lap The route was very technical and had little time to be finished, as is shown by the 12 penalty points received by Bou for surpassing the expected time.
Takahisa Fujinami, the second Repsol Honda Team rider did not have a very good start, with several mistakes in the demanding zones that left him eighth at the end of the first lap. Nevertheless, during the second and third lap the Japanese rider was able to improve his final position, ending in fifth place, just a few points off the podium.
With this result, the Repsol Honda Team secured its 17th Brands title in the history of this competition. Tomorrow it will be the last day of the Spanish Trial Grand Prix in Arnedo. The route will be the same as today, with 10 kilometres and 12 zones that will be repeated three times.
Toni Bou – 1st, 37 points
“It’s clear that today it was a very important day, not only due to my win, which gave me a lot of confidence on the bike, but also for tomorrow, as we’re not forced to win. We worked a lot during the summer to arrive here in our best shape. In a difficult and tough race such as this one, we were able to make a difference and win from the first lap. At the beginning I was a bit nervous, but I was able to improve and that’s even better. Tomorrow it will also be complicated, but I might not take so many risks”.
Takahisa Fujinami – 5th, 69 points
“In the first lap I had a very poor start. I had very little time and had to skip some areas so that I didn’t get too big a penalty for time excess. Some areas had steps that were difficult to jump. In the second lap we improved a bit the set-up of the bike and it worked much better. In the last lap, when I had the chance to get on the podium, a small mistake in the last zone left me without my prize. I’m happy because I recovered points in the second and third lap, though the result wasn’t very different from other GPs. Nevertheless, I’ll fight until the end of the Championship”.
