  • – The Repsol Honda Team have taken three consecutive victories at Aragon, through Casey Stoner (2011), Dani Pedrosa (2012) and Marc Marquez (2013).
  • – Alex Rins won last year’s Moto3 race at MotorLand from pole position –setting a circuit record in qualifying.
  • – With another victory, Marc Marquez would equal Mick Doohan’s 1997 tally of 12 wins in a single season.

Repsol Honda team riders to contest third race on Spanish soil this season. Rins and Marquez on upward trend after two consecutive one-twos in Moto3.

The World Championship this weekend contests the last Grand Prix before the flyaway rounds. The fourteenth event of the season will take place at the MotorLand Aragon circuit, where MotoGP series leader Marc Marquez has a chance to claim a twelfth win of the season at a circuit where he has been victorious twice. Doing so would see him equal Mick Doohan’s feat of a dozen wins in a single season, achieved in 1997. Dani Pedrosa, second in the overall standings, also knows how to win at Aragon, where he has always started from the front row and will be a candidate for glory this time around.

The Repsol riders in the lower cylinder class arrive at their home track in top form. After two consecutive one-twos at Silverstone and Misano, Alex Rins and Alex Marquez aim to keep cutting the gap in the standings to the Moto3 series leader, Jack Miller. Both riders are familiar with the Aragon circuit, as this year their team have conducted three private tests at the track -the latest just three weeks ago.

Marc Marquez

“After a disappointing weekend in Italy, it will be nice to return home to race in front of our home fans in Aragon this weekend and also my fan club will be coming! This is my favourite track of the year and we’ve had good results here in the past three years so I hope to continue this way. It has technical first and final sections, and you need to be strong in cornering, but we will be working hard from Friday to be back on top on Sunday!”

Dani Pedrosa

“Last year obviously wasn’t the best for me, but apart from that I’ve always done well in Aragon and I’m looking forward to racing in front of our home crowd again, the support is always great and gives you motivation! Obviously Marc has a huge lead in the Championship but there is only a single point between me and Valentino, so my priority is to win races and open that margin to take second in the standings.”

Alex Rins

“I am quite optimistic and motivated heading into this home race. The pressure on us is much greater, because we arrive after winning two races and all my friends and supporters will be there to cheer for me, so it will not be easy. Three weeks ago we were testing there and got a good setup for the bike. We’ll see how the weekend goes.”

Alex Marquez

“At the home circuit, now more than ever, we need the people to come and cheer us on and help us. I think this could be a very good weekend for us, because during the year we have conducted three private tests at Aragon that I am certain will prove positive. We have to treat this as just another test, just another race, and try to be as consistent as previously this year at this track. We come into this weekend off a great race at Misano, so I hope that here we are even stronger.”
