Rossi: ‘We continue to work on the bike and the tyres because we are not at 100%’.
Valentino Rossi, 151.968 sec, (2nd): Not too bad today. This morning we made a good lap time better than this afternoon as its now very hot and the grip is not so good. We continue to work on the bike and the tyres because we are not at 100%. We need to look at the data now to understand what improvements we need to make for tomorrow. Nicky Hayden, 1.54´331 sec, (19th): Big learning day today. I love the track just like I had heard. It seems pretty easy to learn but there are a few corners like the blind ones where I just dont have the confidence yet. I guess thatll come the more track time I get. Im looking forward to tomorrow to make a step in improvement. Ill sleep on it tonight and have another go tomorrow! Fonsi Nieto, 1.54´676 sec, (2nd): The last lap behind Poggiali was fast, but that isnt important. Were basically working on the bikes set-up to get a good rhythm for the race on Sunday. Second provisional fastest time means a good place on the grid, but the most important thing is to be able to set a fast pace, and that is something I dont have yet, because I cannot open the throttle when I want to. We cannot find a good rear traction, but were finding the way bit by bit. Were getting closer to the fastest riders, but we have to keep on working to improve the aspects that are still failing. If we manage to improve, well be able to fight for the podium on Sunday. I already missed it in France and I dont want it to happen again here. Toni Elias, 1.55´639 sec, (5th): I had a heavy crash this morning, just like last year on this same circuit. It happened on a very fast section, I lost the bike from the back and before flying off I preferred to let myself down. Fortunately its been nothing serious but Im a bit bruised. It hasnt been a good day for me. I was expecting something more after the private tests we had here in March. The temperature difference with regard to March is big and the bike isnt working the way Id like. Ill sit down with the mechanics this afternoon to see if we can find solutions and make up some tenths of a second to be closer to the lead. Its Friday, first day, and we still have tomorrow left to try to improve. Sebastián Porto, 1.56´524 sec, (7th): It hasnt been an easy day, but we already knew what we were going to find here, because this is quite a fast track with a very long straight, so right now were a bit behind of the Aprilias. The most important thing is a good working bike. Weve improved compared to this morning and we still have Saturday left to fine-tune the frame and engine behaviour. We had some problems with a carburettor towards the end of the session so I had to go back to the garage, thus loosing some minutes I could have used to improve times. But, anyway, we still have tomorrow, so Im not worried. Joan Olivé, 1.57´117 sec, (10th): The session this morning was good and weve been among the top ten in the afternoon, thats very good. I couldnt finish my last fast lap because I had a little problem, I opened the throttle too much and the rear of the bike slid a bit. I was riding with a pace that would have probably meant the eighth fastest time, but it didnt work out. Well keep on working tomorrow to tune the bike for the race, thats what really counts. Héctor Faubel, 1.57´352 sec, (11th): After the races in Jerez and Le Mans, where we had a lot of problems with the suspensions, it seems that today, after the practices, weve finally been able to find the right way. We managed to get a good place and now we have to keep on working to improve the bikes settings. Im happy, its been a good day for us. Dani Pedrosa, 1.59´647 sec, (5th): Its very hot and weve had a lot of problems with the front tyre because it slides a lot and it has no grip. That hindered me from pushing harder today and secure a good grid position. But fortunately the weather forecasts are good and well be able to keep on working on the bike tomorrow. There was heavy traffic on the track today and that made it difficult for me to make a faster lap. Pablo Nieto, 1.59´544 sec, (3rd): We are working looking forward to the race and although the bike is working fine, there are still some details left to be improved that will help me to keep a good rhythm on Sunday. These improvements I mentioned are mainly with regard to the chassis. The race will be critical for the tyres, so the success will highly depend on the right choice of tyres. Héctor Barberá, 2.01´340 sec, (20th):Its been a quite difficult session due to the heat. The bikes settings have changed compared to the ones we had for the IRTA tests some months ago. With the times I made then, I would have been fifth fastest today. But we already know what kind of settings we want to use for tomorrow.
