Biography

Jaime Alguersuari had his first ever experience in the world of competitive motoring in karting, this was back in 1998 when he was only 8 years old. His first few races in the Campeonato Catalán de Karting, in the Alevín & Cadete categories, taught him a lot  and at the same time helped him to show how good a young driver he was.

At the age of 13 his international fame grew with his participation in several European championships. Between 2003 – 2004 Alguersuari competed in the ICA Junior category and got some excellent results, in both Spain and Europe. He carried off the Spanish Championship in 2004, and won all the races in the calendar, becoming the youngest driver to win it. He was also the driver who absolutely dominated the International Champions Cup. At a European level Jaime got an excellent 4th place in the prestigious Italian Open Masters, and was 7th in the Final of the European Championship.

In 2005 at the age of 15, Alguersuari became an Intrepid factory driver, and drove in the ICA category. At national level he won the Spanish Champioship, and at the same time he was outstanding in Europe, getting excellent results in Italy as well as in Asia. He managed to finish second when he made his debut in the FIA World Cup Asia Pacific held at Suzuka. During the whole year he combined his triumphs in international karting with his first drives in Formula races, driving in Formula Junior 1.6 by Renault in Italy as a member of the Tomcat Racing team getting two two victories and setting a new record for the yoingest ever race winner in this championship. These triumphs made him into the third-placed driver in the championship.

After success in these categories the Red Bull Formula 1 team noticed him and signed him for its Young Driver Program, he joined the Red Bull Junior Team for a five year project. Since then Jaime has started to compete in the most prestigious categories that pave the way for an entrance into F1.

In 2006 he participated in the prestigious Formula Renault 2.0 Championship Italy, ending the season as the Rookie of the Year, becoming the youngest driver ever to get a podium finish. He combined races in Italy with the Formula Renault Europcup 2.0 and he won the Winter Series Formula Renault 2.0 title with four race victories, and once again was the youngest driver to win a race in this category.

The following season, now aged 17, he carried on participating in Formula Renault 2.0 Italy and the FR Eurocup 2.0 again, he finished the year as runner-up in Italy and fifth in the European championship.

In 2008 his professional career took a giant stride forwards as he won the British F3 International Series, one of the most important championships in this category at world level, which had seen great drivers like Ayrton Senna, Jenson Button, Nelson Piquet Jr. and David Coulthard, among others show their budding skills. With 5 victories and 12 podium finishes Jaime won the title in his debut year, becoming the youngest driver in the history of the British Championship to win it.

Moreover, the Red Bull team rewarded his unstoppable progress with his first drive in a F1 car; he did a test in the RB4 2008 at the Circuit of Idiada in Tarragona, and another at a roadshow at the Circuit of the Algarve. And he had a successful half-season in the Spanish F3 Championship, winning three races.

In 2009 Jaime Alguersuari will climb even higher in the racing world by making another debut in a new category for him, Formula Renault 3.5 thanks to Repsol as a member of the Carlin Motorsport team. He will compete on 6 circuits which currently organise F1 GP races, and at the wheel of a 500bhp car that uses slick tyres.
