Today saw the first race in this weekend`s round of the World Series at the circuit of Silverstone in the UK, and the Repsol driver Jaime Alguersuari finished 6th. Once again he had a race where he had a lot of work to do as he started from 9th, but he climbed three positions and crossed the finishing line just over 6 seconds behind the winner, Marcos Martínez, obtaining 9 more points for his haul in the overall classification.
Alguersuari, who will be the third driver at the Red Bull Formula 1 team starting at the German GP, was not able to overtake at the start. He was 9th on the grid and was the first driver of those classified in the super pole that was not affected by the reversed starting order for Saturday`s race. Even though he had a fast pace he could only take advantage of the circumstances in the race to climb three positions and gain some important points in his battle to win the title.
Tomorrow sees the second race at Silverstone and the Repsol driver will again start from the fifth row, in 9th place.
Jaime Alguersuari, 6th at 6.717 secs.
“I think that I put in a good race once again. After all what we need are points, and I think 6th is quite a positive result considering what is left of the championship. There are five races left and up to now we have always been among the first five or six. We know where our weak points are, that is the super pole, because in qualification we are always competitive. We need to improve on the fast corners because we lack grip on the rear wheels. We have to carry on working because the pace we have is good. I think the day when we set everything up right we can win a race, the points that I already have are now even more valuable, and we will move into the top four of the championship, that is our objective.”
