Biography

Julián Miralles Rodríguez has racing in his blood, because he was born and grew up surrounded by motorbikes. Julián is the eldest of three children of the 125cc European Champion Julián Miralles, a regular in the World Championship grids in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He already shared his liking for motorbikes as a child but it wasnt until 1999, at the age of 11, when Miralles Junior, as everybody knows him, began racing in the Bancaja Promotion Formula, in the 50cc class, where he discovered the excitement of racing that later took him to dedicate himself seriously to it.

In the 2000 season he managed to finish third of the series. A great result considering that those were his first contacts with the racing world. Bit by bit he would get a place among the young riders. But 2001 wasnt as good as expected and a whole series of mishaps set him back to the sixth overall position of the Bancaja Formula.

In 2002 he took part in 125cc class of the Spanish Road Racing Championship (CEV) for the first time, combining it with his fourth and last season in the Bancaja Formula series. He finished eighth in his first CEV year, behind his fellow-countryman from Valencia Héctor Barberá, and was also runner-up in the promotion formula. The following year he repeated the position in the CEV and had his first international appearance. He took part in one race of the 125cc European Championship in Assen, where he surprised everybody with a third place.

2004 was with no doubt the best season of Julián Miralles Jr, because he fought for the 125cc Spanish and European title. He also took part as a guest rider in the Grand Prix of Spain, France, Germany and the Comunidad Valenciana. It was in Jerez where he got his best result, sixteenth. In his third season in the CEV he showed great regularity and reached the last race of the season staged in Jerez leading the standings. There were three riders with chances to take the title: Miralles, Aleix Espargaró and Manuel Hernández, who was ruled out after a crash during practice. On a much better place during the race, Miralles was just a about to clinch the title, when another rider pushed him off the track with two laps left for the end of the race, giving the title to Espargaró. The young 15-year-old rider from Valencia who had become runner-up of the European Road Racing Championship one month before, had to settle once again for a second place, this time in the CEV.

This year, good performance has taken this young, 16-year-old rider to make the definitive leap to the Road Racing World Championship within the junior team of Jorge Martínez Aspar. Miralles, one of the strongest promises of Spanish motorcycles, will race his first complete season in the quarter-of-a-litre class having Jordi Carchano as his team-mate in the MVA Aspar team on an Aprilia. Almost all circuits will be new to him, but he faces the year in high spirits and looking forward to working day by day, learning and moving forward race after race. His aim: scoring in as much races as possible and getting good results, but above all learning and gathering experience.

Julián combines sports with his school education in Alberic (Valencia). His favourite colour is orange and in his spare time he enjoys spending time with friends and playing fronton. His passion are motorbikes and his dream is to become World Champion.
