The Ricardo Tormo Circuit held a Racing day in which victories were for the two Moto3 Japanese riders, Yuki Kunii and Ryusei Yamanaka, for Edgar Pons, in Moto2, and for Izan Guevara, who won both ETC races.
At the Moto3 Junior World Championship, Yuki Kunii won the first race of the day. Behind him, a group of up to 6 riders was fighting for the other two podium position, which in the end were for Jeremy Alcoba and Davide Pizzoli.
The second race of the day was decided in an overtaking manoeuvre made by Ryusei Yamanaka over Yuki Kunii, in the last corner of the last lap. A big group of riders kept fighting for the third place, which went to the Spaniard Daniel Holgado.
The Moto2 race was interrupted due to a red flag in the second lap, after discovering some oil on the track, which caused several crashes. The race was reduced to 12 laps.
In the second start, Edgar Pons and Héctor Garzó were able to escape from the beginning, but two laps before the end it was Pons who built some advantage and crossed the Finish line alone. The Italian rider Tommaso Marcon completed the podium.
Double victory for Izan Guevara in a perfect weekend for the Spanish rider. In the first race, Spaniard Fermín Aldeguer and German Dirk Geiger accompanied Guevara on the podium. In the second race it was David Muñoz who took the second place and Dirk Geiger repeated on the third step of the podium.
With these results, the leaders of each category are Yuki Kunii, in Moto3, Edgar Pons, in Moto2 and Izan Guevara, in the European Talent Cup.
The next round will take place on Saturday, May the 18th at the French circuit of Le Mans, where only the Moto3 riders will compete.
YUKI KUNII – Moto3 first race winner
“I’m very happy, I want to thank my team because they did a great job during the whole weekend and also thank my family for their support. At the start of the race it took me a bit to catch up with Öncü, but I did it. By mid-race, I saw that my advantage was 8 seconds over the other group, I was consistent until the end and I was able to win”.
RYUSEI YAMANAKA – Moto3 second race winner
“It was amazing! I have no words! I had issued during the whole weekend, even in the first race, so I’m really happy to have won the second. I want to thank my team”.
EDGAR PONS – Moto2 race winner
“I’m happy because it has been a very good weekend. It was also good in Estoril, but here we were able to ride on dry tarmac. At the beginning of the race I was able to push, but the tyre wore very fast, especially on the left side and I had a few scares. I decided to reduce the pace, control Héctor [Garzó] and surprise him during the last few laps. I’m very happy with my first win of the championship”.
IZAN GUEVARA – ETC first race winner
“It was a difficult race, but we were able to win and complete an incredible weekend. The only thing I can do is thank my team for their job, my sponsors and my parents. I have no words”.
IZAN GUEVARA – ETC second race winner
“It was an incredible weekend: two wins in two races. I want to thank my team, my sponsors and everyone that supports me. It was amazing!”
