Laia Sanz adds a new victory in the European Trial Championship

Laia Sanz dominated with authority the second trial that scores in the Women’s European Trial Championship, held today in Sant Julià de Lòria, Andorra. With this win, Laia Sanz remains unbeaten in the European event since August 2002, taking a practically decisive step towards achieving what will be her ninth European Championship title; all consecutive.

The rain that came down in the days running up to this event increased the difficulty of the zones, although Laia Sanz only received one penalty point in each round. At the end of the first round, she had a 13 point advantage over her nearest rivals, which increased by another five points in the second.

The Repsol Montesa Honda rider only needs to finish fourth in the event that will close the event on 28 August in Tanval, Czech Republic, to add a new title to her impressive list.

Laia Sanz
“I felt good in this trial, as both the first zones, quite wet, and particularly the river ones, with a strong current, were quite selective. My position in the championship is now quite comfortable because an eight point advantage leaves a good margin for confidence. But I’m not in the habit of taking it easy and that’s why I’m going to continue along the usual line of work to achieve my main goals for this season; the Women’s World and European Championship titles. From September, when this programme has ended, I’ll think about and work more on enduro. In the meantime, I prefer not to mix the two specialities”.
