Laia Sanz and Repsol Montesa Honda, World Champions again

Laia Sanz has increased her Women’s Trial World Championship titles record to ten, after winning the second trial that scores in the current edition of this championship today in Kramolin, the Czech Republic. A victory that, added to that of the previous trial (on 10 July in Saint Michel de Maurienne, France), has assured her the world title with the third trail still to be held, next Friday in (Poland).

A week after celebrating her ninth European Championship, the Repsol rider has taken this tenth world title. Although Sanz took a resounding victory in the first trial, which was extremely difficult, (with 35 points less than her nearest rival), this time the differences were minimum; the victory finally being decided by the partial results of the zones.

The reason for this was the low level of difficulty of the Czech trial and the fact that it was impossible to recover the points lost through simple mistakes. The many-times champion finished the first round without any penalties, but in the second, she broke one of the stakes holding the cordon of a zone and was penalized five points, with which she finished the trial.

“Ten world titles is a fantastic number. And I suffered a lot to achieve this last one, as at the end of the first round the differences were very little and didn’t let you make the slightest mistake in the second round. In one zone, I wanted to avoid a base, with the bad luck that I broke the stake holding the tape. At the time, it brought to mind the sad episode that happened three years ago in the Isle of Man when I lost the championship that we were tossing for in a similar incident. Luckily for me, this time the outcome was different and I have secured the title without having to spend the whole week thinking about what will happen in the third trial. After suffering so much today, I want to enjoy this moment to the full and try to end the season, next weekend, as well as possible. And then …, I’m sure that it won’t be long before I start thinking about the eleventh”.
