Laia Sanz & Repsol regain the European title

Laia Sanz has regained the Women`s European Trial Champion title for the eighth consecutive year, after having won today`s, Saturday, third and final round of the event. The Repsol rider finished unbeaten this year and today she had quite a big lead over her most direct rivals.

Laia Sanz, who just needed to finish 3rd today in Tanval to win the title, dominated the two laps of the track today. The twelve selective zones made one think yesterday that the round would be an easy one, but after rain last night any mistake could have turned out to be very  expensive. The rain continued today and made the event even more of a serious challenge.

In these conditions the Repsol rider had to use all her skills; she completed the first lap without getting any penalty points compared to the nine given to the rider that finished in second place. On the second lap the conditions were even worse and as each competitor completed the lap there was more and more mud, loose rocks and roots on the surface. Sanz received two penalty points on one of the zones, and another three on one that seemed impossible to get through, but she finished the day with another ten zeros, and only 5 points on her card.

Sanz, now eight times winner of the Women`s European Trial Championship was born on 11th December 1985 in Corbera de Llobregat (Barcelona) and has been a member of the Repsol Montesa Honda team since 2004. Laia Sanz`s next objective is to win what will be her ninth world title. This will be decided in the rounds held on 12th and 18th September at Isola 2000 (France) and Darfo Boario (Italy), respectively. Sanz won the first round held in Andorra.

“I have fulfilled my overriding objective that I had this season and now I just have the world title left to regain. I am very satisfied with this eighth champioship, winning is not tiring and neither is it a routine, for me it is a case of finding a constant source of motivation. Today, I also enjoyed myself a lot because the zones that seemed to be easy yesterday changed completely with the rain. In these conditions the victory is worth even more”.
