Biography
Luca Marini was born in Urbino on August 10, 1997 and grew up in Tavullia surrounded by riders, circuits and competitions.
By 2004, at the age of seven, he was already a regular on the Italian minibike scene, using his customary number 97.
In 2013 he made the move to the biggest series in Italy, the CIV, and battled with Andrea Locatelli for the title -eventually finishing second. That same season he debuted as a wildcard in the FIM CEV, scoring points in three of his four races, and also in the Moto3 World Championship, where at the Misano Grand Prix he crashed out on the opening lap.
In 2014, the Italian moved to the FIM CEV full time with the Aspar Team-VR46, finishing 16th and earning points in seven of the eleven races. That would be his last season on a Moto3 bike, as his height required a change to Moto2. In his first season in the intermediate class, he achieved his first Grand Prix podium with second place in Barcelona, and finished fifth in the European championship with the Sito Pons HP40 team. Furthermore, he made his first Moto2 World Championship wildcard, again in San Marino, where he placed 21st.
His good performance on the Kalex at only eighteen years old was enough for the Forward Team to bring him in. He spent two seasons there, with a race lap record and several Top 6 finishes, before joining the team owned by his half-brother, Valentino, in 2018.
With SKY Racing Team VR46, Marini consolidated himself in Moto2. In three years, he took six victories, six second places and another three third place finishes, and in his final year was runner-up in the series behind Enea Bastianini.
In 2021, he came into MotoGP. His adaptation was not easy at all, but he managed to score 41 points and had some notable performances, such as a Top 5 in Austria and ninth in San Marino.
For his second season, Marini signed for the Mooney VR46 Racing Team alongside Marco Bezzecchi. In 2022 he managed to finish in the points in 75% of the races held and, in 2023, he took his first podiums: Two in GPs and four in sprint races, which took him into the Top 8 overall.
Now he joins the Repsol Honda Team alongside Joan Mir, aiming to build on his previous successes in the premier class.
