The Repsol rider achieves his second victory of the season in a round he dominated from beginning to end
Marc Coma achieved this afternoon the victory in the third round of the Cross-Country World Championship, the Sardinian Rally Race. Despite starting first in all the stages, which forced him to open the track, the Repsol rider won six of the nine stages of the race. After winning the first raid of the year in Abu Dhabi and renouncing to participate in Tunisia due to KTM’s decision, the Repsol rider won all the races of this championship in which he has participated.
The rally started with Coma setting the pace and, already in the first leg, he was able to take the lead thanks to winning both stages of the day. In the second day, the rider from Avià finished first and second in the two stages of the leg. Despite that, he kept the lead by 1 minute and 49 seconds over his closest rival, French rider Cyril Despres.
The next day, the Repsol rider faced one of the most technical and difficult legs in the navigation area. However, Com was able to achieve one more stage win, which he would add, in the fourth leg, to two more triumphs in the two stages of the day. Today he managed the margin he achieved during the whole rally and, after finishing the last two stages in eighth and ninth position, he achieved an indisputable victory at the Sardinian Rally Race.
The fourth and last round of the Cross-Country World Rally Championship, the Pharaohs Rally, will take place in Egypt next October 1st. to 9th.
Marc Coma:
“I am very satisfied with this victory, as it was not easy at all. Usually, the last leg of a race are a bit of a formality, but this one was really complicated. We covered 150 timed kilometres through a very difficult terrain and that requires a very high level of concentration. What really matters in the end is the result, so we can be very happy. We were very consistent, working for each day and with the backing of a great bike and a great team. I want to thank them for all their effort, because many times, or even always, the work done backstage is the most important part of any triumph. We have now finished the first part of the season on a high and I hope the second part will be as positive for all of us. We deserve a rest before preparing for the next race, the Pharaohs Rally”
