The Repsol rider offers a corner-by-corner study of Motorland Aragon track, where this weekend will take place the next 2011 World Championship round
The 10 left-hand and 7 right-hand corners that form Motorland Aragon track are the next challenge for Marc Márquez and his Moto2. The town of Alcañiz will receive this weekend the visit of the MotoGP World Championship and this will be the third home race for the Repsol rider. Marc Márquez arrives in Motorland in second place of the overall standings and has been reducing his points difference with leader Stefan Bradl race after race. The rookie of the year will try to achieve at home his third consecutive victory of the intermediate class.
In the 5.078 metres of the track, one of the longest of the championship, the riders face a combination of fast and slow corners —some of them blind— where they have to look for references outside the track. For Márquez, the most important are the fast uphill corner of the first sector, the Motorland Aragón “Corkscrew” —corners 8 and 9— and corner number 12, great for overtaking and one of the points where this Sunday’s races can be decided.
The first edition of the Aragon GP was awarded last season with the Best Grand Prix of the Year 2010, by the IRTA —riders and teams association—. An edition where the rider from Cervera competed in the 125cc class with mixed results. In the Qualifying session, Márquez achieved a great pole position more than half a second in front of his closest rival. But on Sunday everything changed and the current 125cc World Champion was hit by a rival in the first corner, thus retiring from the race.
After achieving five wins in the last six races, Marc Márquez will try to offer the thousands of fans that will be at the Alcañiz track another good performance on his bike.
