Repsol Honda Team riders race in Spain for third time this year, one win away from 50 victories in the World Championship.
After rainy races in England and Italy, this weekend the MotoGP World Championship returns to Spain for the third time this season to celebrate the Aragon Grand Prix. Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa arrive at the fourteenth round of the year with the opportunity to score their 50th victory in the World Championship. Both have previous winning experience at MotorLand Aragon and will have the support of the Spanish fans in the sixth visit to the circuit for MotoGP.
In Moto3, after a difficult San Marino Grand Prix at which he could not contest the race, Jorge Navarro heads to MotorLand Aragon further recovered from the crash he suffered in practice. He does so motivated by a good test undertaken at the Aragon circuit three weeks ago ‒along with his teammate, Fabio Quartararo. The Frenchman, who broke his malleolus bone in Misano, will not race this weekend and will be replaced by Sena Yamada –currently tenth in the FIM CEV Repsol series. For Maria Herrera, the round at the Spanish track is one of the most important of the season; she arrives in high spirits after a positive test with her team at Misano the Monday after the race.
Marc Marquez
“After a strange race in Misano, I’m really looking forward to Aragon this weekend! This is my favourite track of the year and we’ve had good results in the past, despite last year’s unfortunate rain-affected race! The first and final sections of the track are quite technical and you must work hard on the setup to have good cornering. Let’s hope this weekend we can have a ‘normal’ race weekend with good weather so we can work hard from the Friday and be ready for the fight on Sunday.”
Dani Pedrosa
“It was a disappointing race in Misano and I’ve already put it behind me. The last two years have been tricky for me in Aragon so I look forward to an incident free race this year! I enjoy going to Aragon and having the opportunity to race in front of our home fans, of course this gives you more motivation and we will all try put on a good show for them. Let’s see how the weather is and I hope to be in the battle for the victory.”
Jorge Navarro
“After a San Marino Grand Prix in which unfortunately we could not participate in the race, I am eager to contest the Aragon Grand Prix. I still have a few days to fully recover and try to get back one hundred percent fit. In recent rounds I have made some great improvements, so we arrive at this weekend motivated. After the test we had a few weeks ago at MotorLand track, where we saw that we can do very well there, we have a further boost.”
Sena Yamada
“Being able to participate in this race is very good for me, because competing alongside World Championship riders will give me a lot of experience. The MotorLand Aragon circuit is a track I know, because this year, in addition to testing there, I’ve had two rounds of the FIM CEV Repsol there and I had good pace. I hope Fabio Quartararo will recover soon from his foot injury; in the meantime I’ll be riding his bike and I am very grateful to the team for this opportunity.”
María Herrera
“We’re going to MotorLand motivated. After the San Marino Grand Prix we had a day of testing at Misano that went very well. We found a good setup for the new chassis and the feeling on the bike was very good. Overall, we took a step forward; that means that we go to a circuit I know well feeling strong and confident.”
