Marc Márquez falls during the first lap of the Spanish Grand Prix

The Spanish Grand Prix has had an unexpected ending for Marc Márquez, who due to a mechanical fault was unable to complete the first lap. The Repsol rider started from the first place on the grid after a faultless performance yesterday during the qualifying and despite a discreet start, he remained in the lead group, in fourth place. However, two turns before completing the first lap, a broken exhaust pipe left the Repsol rider on the floor.

In the “Ferrari” turn – a fast right – the silencer of his Derbi suddenly came away with the bad luck that it ended up in the rear wheel. It is a problem that the Italian brand detected in the winter after changing supplier and which other teams had already suffered. Márquez was thrown through the air, dislocating his right shoulder and grazing his left side around the hip when he fell. The Repsol rider has had his injury reduced at the circuit hospital and he will shortly return to Barcelona to be examined by doctors there.

Emilio Alzamora
“It’s a shame because Marc [Márquez] had had very good practices and this fall wasn’t his fault. The exhaust broke where it connects to the silencer during the first lap, it got under the rear wheel of his bike and he fell hard. Marc has a dislocated right shoulder -, which has already been reduced – and has grazed his left side, around the hip. Now, we’ll try to get home quickly so that the doctors there can examine him more carefully, as soon as possible. Under normal circumstances, he should be ready for France but I prefer to wait until the doctors in Barcelona see him to be able to be more specific”.
