Repsol rider takes fantastic win at Indianapolis GP. He now holds five victories from ten races and a 39 point advantage in the overall standings.
Marc Marquez consolidated his lead in the Moto2 World Championship with another riding exhibition, which led to him crossing the finish line alone and scoring another victory —his fifth of the season. With this result, the Repsol rider has already been on the top step of the podium at half of the races and leads the Moto2 standings with a 39 point advantage.
The Repsol rider started from second place after qualifying yesterday and recovered quickly from a slow start in which he lost two positions. Andrea Iannone took the lead in the early stages, followed by Pol Espargaró and Dominique Aegerter —who took over in front on the second lap. The Repsol rider took no chances of letting the pack escape and got past Espargaró and then Iannone –before hunting down Aegerter almost a second ahead. From corner to corner, Márquez quickly reduced the gap and made his way through to the lead on lap four.
From that moment on, Márquez set a pace that no one was able to follow, dropping his own lap times three times in a row on laps four through six. He set a new circuit record of 1’43.304 along the way. Keeping concentration and withstanding tension at all times, the Repsol rider finally crossed the finish line alone with more than five seconds of advantage, taking to the top step of the podium for the fifth time this season (his eighth top three finish of the campaign). The Spaniard leads the Moto2 World Championship with 188 points and a holds a 39-point advantage over second-placed Pol Espargaró, whom he will face again within seven days, at the Czech Republic Grand Prix.

“Although it might not have seemed like it, that was a very difficult race. It is very hard to keep the same focus and pace throughout an entire weekend. I surprised myself, because my strategy was to conserve the tyres but I decided to try to escape once I’d noticed that everyone had the same tactic. At the midway point I had built up a lead that allowed me to manage the race through to the end.”
