Marc Márquez qualifies second and finishes sprint seventh

The Repsol Honda team rider comes close to taking pole position while showing himself to be competitive in the race.

The second day of the Grand Prix at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello started with cloudy skies. Despite the fact that rain threatened to fall during the sprint race, it was a dry contest for the MotoGP field. In the morning, Marc Márquez qualified in second place, going on to finish the sprint race seventh.

In the morning, the Repsol Honda Team focused on working together with Márquez during free practice, having already ensured a spot in Q2 on Friday. In qualifying, he set a time that put him on the front row, where he has been in the other two Grands Prix in which he has participated this year. With a time of 1:44.933, he was second, just 0.078 off pole.

In the afternoon, with the timid presence of rain, Márquez continued to show his potential by maintaining second position at the start of the sprint race. After fighting for podium positions, the Repsol Honda team rider was relegated to seventh place due to a collision with another rider, from which he escaped without major consequences. Finally, he has maintained seventh through to the chequered flag, running the same pace as the leading group.

Márquez collects three points and will have another opportunity to continue accumulating them tomorrow with the MotoGP race, which starts at 2pm (CEST).

MARC MÁRQUEZ – 7th

“The front row earlier today was really unexpected, this was a really positive point from today but we remained realistic about our targets. Today’s result in the Sprint was not a surprise, it’s what I was expecting before the day began. I tried to put together the perfect race and to stay right there in the group, waiting for an opportunity. We had a moment with Miller, it was nothing strange, just racing, but from that moment I lost a lot of positions and worked on rebuilding my race. Let’s see what will happen tomorrow.”
