– Marc Marquez holds all records at the Circuit of The Americas, with the fastest race lap and pole record (2:02.773), circuit record (2:03.575) and top speed (341.6km/h).
– Marc Marquez took his first victory in MotoGP at Austin.
– None of the 3 Repsol Moto3 riders have previous experience at this track.
Repsol Honda rider has won from pole on each of his two visits to Austin -the 2013 triumph was his first win in MotoGP. Hiroshi Aoyama will replace Dani Pedrosa in MotoGP, and Quartararo, Navarro and Herrera ride at Austin for the first time.
The Repsol Honda team have good memories of the two Grands Prix of The Americas held to date. On their two visits to the circuit, Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa have finished in first and second place, respectively, both years in qualifying and the race. In 2013, the win for Marquez was the first for the now two-time MotoGP World Champion. This time around his teammate will be Hiroshi Aoyama, standing in whilst Dani Pedrosa recovers from an operation on his right forearm.
In Moto3, Fabio Quartararo, Jorge Navarro and Maria Herrera will all be riding at the Circuit of The Americas for the first time. The three Repsol riders arrive in Austin after good performances in the race in Qatar, where Quartararo and Navarro fought for podium finishes and Herrera paced 22nd after starting from 32nd.
Marc Marquez:
“”I’m really looking froward to getting to Austin and putting Qatar behind us. The Circuit of The Americas is one of my favourite circuits and I have good memories of taking my first win in the MotoGP class, back in 2013, and also winning there last year. We need to work hard from FP1 and then keep this momentum for the whole weekend and have a ‘normal’ race. I’m really sorry for Dani, myself and the whole team wish him a speedy recovery. We welcome Hiroshi to the team and will help him how we can!”
Hiroshi Aoyama:
“I’ve very sorry for Dani’s situation, I know how demanding it is to ride a MotoGP machine and with the problem he had, it’s a great job to finish sixth in Qatar! I would like to thank HRC for asking me to stand in for Dani in Austin, I will do my best and hope to enjoy this experience with the Repsol Honda Team. The Austin track is very demanding and technical, each session will be important to learn the bike and get to know the team, but I am looking forward to being there and racing in the USA with the MotoGP riders. I wish Dani a fast recovery and that he can return on track soon.”
Fabio Quartararo:
“I can’t wait to go to Austin and try to repeat the weekend we had in Qatar. The Circuit of The Americas is a fast track, with lots of flowing corners early on. I think I’m going to like it. I’ve never been to the United States and I’m excited to visit the country for the first time, but mostly I’m looking forward to the circuit –which is where I most like to be.”
Jorge Navarro:
“After the race in Qatar, I have been looking forward to racing in Austin. In the last race I learned a lot, especially in the melee, where you cannot give an inch of space. It was also the first time that I have been in the front group fighting for victory. The Circuit of The Americas is new to us, but the team have plenty of experience and data so I’m sure we will quickly find our way. From what I’ve seen in videos, there is some hard braking and that is what we most have to work on, in order to adapt well to those kinds of corners.”
Maria Herrera:
“For this Grand Prix we are clear about the fact that we need strong start, right from the first free practice. We can’t hold anything back and we need to do our best to get ready for the race. After the Grand Prix of Qatar I feel more settled in the World Championship and more comfortable. I’ve been told that the Circuit of The Americas is a bit tricky and we have to adapt quickly; I’m watching videos of previous years in order to learn the track and I’ll go out on the scooter when I get there.”
