The Repsol Honda Team rider goes directly into the session that will define the starting grid on Saturday. Joan Mir suffers a serious crash in the morning that does not allow him to go out on track in the afternoon.
The first day of the Valencian Grand Prix at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo concluded with contrasting fortunes in the Repsol Honda Team box.
Marc Márquez started his last weekend as a Repsol Honda Team rider with a good feeling. The eight-time World Champion occupied seventh position in both sessions, setting a best time of 1:29.459.
With this time, he made the cut for Q2 on Saturday.
A heavy crash during the early stages of the morning session forced Joan Mir to be taken to the circuit’s medical centre. After a preliminary check-up, the MotoGP doctors considered it best to carry out a more thorough inspection at a hospital in Valencia.
In the end, a fracture was ruled out, but he would sit out the rest of the day. The Repsol Honda Team rider will undergo a medical check again on Saturday morning before FP2, to decide if he can return to action in the session.
MARC MÁRQUEZ – 7th 1’29.459
“Today I felt good on the bike, and I decided to take some extra risks. Even in the morning I was quite convinced of my possibilities, and I changed my mentality a bit to take a lot more risks, but I feel it’s the way to do it this weekend. My concentration is 100% on riding to the best of my abilities on the Repsol Honda Team RC213V. I was able to do the time attack alone, which is something that has been quite complicated this season. Tomorrow, we aim to follow the same plan, we will see what possibilities we have after Qualifying because it’s always very tricky to overtake here.”
