The two Repsol riders crashed out in an accident-filled race, on a track surface that had numerous damp patches.
Raceday at the Malaysian Grand Prix was a difficult one for the Repsol Moto3 riders. Aron Canet had the briefest of races, as he was involved in a first lap crash along with Martin, Oettl and Bulega, when the former took down his fellow riders in the incident. Canet had to brake very hard and went off the racing line, finishing up on the ground. Teammate Jorge Navarro met a similar fate with 13 laps remaining of the race, putting his bike into neutral by mistake and crashing at Turn 15. The Moto3 World Championship concludes in two weeks’ time in Valencia.

“Today I made a mistake: I didn’t engage the gear correctly, the bike stayed in neutral and when I got it completely into first, I crashed. We were well placed in very difficult conditions and I was quite alert, because I had already had some scares. I hope we start the next Grand Prix in Valencia with better weather, because this weekend has been a bit strange; we have never had a completely dry track. Let’s see if at the last race of the year we can do a good job and finish the season with a good taste in our mouths.”

“There is not much to say. It’s a shame to finish like this, because I think we were prepared to have a good race, but on a track with new asphalt and little grip after the rain this morning, there were still some unseen puddles. We started and at Turn 5 of the first lap, Jorge Martin crashed and I couldn’t avoid him. My hand hurts a little, but hopefully it’s nothing. I want to thank Phillip Oettl, who was also involved in the crash and was concerned about me.”
