SEAT’s entry into the world of international rally competition was groundbreaking, and the success experienced led to a more complete project for 1997. After a strong start at Monte Carlo and Portugal, the rest of the season was saw wins on all five continents. Harry Rovanpera, Oriol Gomez and Erwin Weber all took the SEAT Ibiza Kit Car Evolución II, to victory.
