Marquez and Pedrosa won the Indianapolis GP in their respective classes in 2012. They lead the MotoGP standings and are separated by just 16 points.

Marc Marquez has won twice in a row at Indianapolis –in 2011 and 2012– and has won the two previous US rounds this season at Austin and Laguna Seca. He has also won the past two races –held in Germany and the USA.

Alex Rins has won two races and a further five podiums from eight races. Alex Marquez has placed in the top five at the last five rounds.

Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa head the MotoGP standings as series resumes this weekend at Indianapolis. Moto3 riders Alex Rins and Alex Marquez return to work after lower cylinder class skipped Laguna Seca.

With nine key races ahead, this weekend marks the start of the second half of the MotoGP season. It does so at the historic Indianapolis circuit in the USA. The oldest venue on the calendar –the IMS was inaugurated in 1909– welcomes back all three World Championship classes after a summer break. Marc Marquez and Dani Pedrosa lead the overall standings in MotoGP with 163 and 147 points, respectively, whilst Alex Rins and Alex Marquez are third and fifth placed in Moto3.

The track is a strong one for both Marquez and Pedrosa, who have two wins each and are in excellent form onboard their RC213V bikes. World Championship leader Marquez has to adapt to Indianapolis on a MotoGP bike and his Repsol Honda teammate must assess the recovery made from his left collarbone injury over recent weeks of rest.

In the lower cylinder class, Alex Rins and Alex Marquez will take their experience of the track from last year, coupled with their strong form this season, to look for a good result this weekend. They occupy third and fifth in the standings, respectively.

Dani Pedrosa
“It’s been a good Summer break and I’m feeling much stronger physically. I’ve had time to relax with some friends and also have lots of physiotherapy on my shoulder to prepare myself for this second part of the season. I’ve had a medical check in the last days and we can see the bone getting stronger. It still needs a few more weeks to recover completely but my feeling is already much better than in Laguna. It’s important to remain focused, especially now as we have three races in a row. I’ve had good results at Indy in the past few years, I enjoy riding there and now I am eager to get back on the bike and ride at my best!”.

Marc Marquez
“After a good break, where I’ve managed to relax a little and also do some training, I’m looking forward to getting back on track! It’s been good to have this time off to think about my first few months in MotoGP and reflect on my performances and what I’ve learnt but now I’m ready to get back on the bike! I like the Indianapolis track and I’m interested to see how the grip is on the Bridgestone tyres because it seems this has been an issue in the past. As usual, we will take our time in FP1 and try to find our feeling on the bike at this track and also after this Summer break, and hope for a good weekend!”

Alex Rins
“I am very motivated in the lead-up to Indianapolis, where I rode last year and did a good job. I tested in Slovakia during the holidays, with positive conclusions drawn for the remainder of the season. I think that this year, with the competitive bike that we have, we can have a good weekend. Indianapolis is a very complete circuit, because it has a bit of everything: Fast corners, slow corners and a second sector with almost a triple chicane formed by the linked corners. I’m sure that on Friday, when I get on the bike after such a long time away, it will feel strange for the first few laps –but I’ll quickly find a good feeling again.”

Alex Marquez
“In the break I completely disconnected for a week, which is also necessary from time to time. Then I was training full-on for a week and a half, cycling, running and going to the gym in order to be strong in Indianapolis. Now we have three back-to-back races ahead of us,so we have to be well prepared physically and mentally after such a long break. I debuted at Indianapolis as a ‘full-time’ rider last year, after my wild card appearances. It was a tough week; I was very motivated and that sometimes works against you, as I suffered a lot of crashes. The important thing is that I enjoyed myself, and this year we have more experience so we have to approach this race with the same motivation as in the first part of the season.”
