Repsol’s Technology Lab has received an engine from the DKR GR Hilux, the vehicle with which Toyota Gazoo Racing W2RC are competing this week in the Desafio Ruta 40 Rally.

This week, Argentina hosts the third round of the World Rally-Raid Championship (W2RC): the Desafio Ruta 40. Between May 25 and May 29, Repsol and the Toyota Gazoo Racing W2RC team will take on the event with drivers Henk Lategan and Seth Quintero. This event is part of the alliance between the multi-energy company and the Japanese manufacturer to further develop their products —renewable fuels and lubricants— in competition.

As a result of this alliance, the Toyota Gazoo Racing W2RC team have provided the engine from one of their DKR HR Hilux rally machines to Repsol’s Technology Lab in Móstoles, Spain. The arrival of this engine is a new milestone that will advance the development of the best technical solutions for teams, with new formulations of renewable fuel and lubricants adapted to the demands of competition.

The project is part of the collaboration between Repsol and Toyota Gazoo Racing W2RC, and will allow an analysis and optimisation of these fuels under conditions similar to those faced by teams in extreme events such as the Dakar Rally or the World Rally-Raid Championship. Work carried out in the laboratory will lead to continuous improvements and testing of the products in the competition engine, allowing assesment of any formulation changes more quickly and accurately.

The knowledge gained in competition will be transferable to the products that Repsol make available to customers at their service stations, reinforcing the role of high-level competition as a testing ground for the development of new energy solutions.
