Laia Sanz has achieved an uncontested win in the trail that opened a new edition of the Women’s Trial World Championship today, an event in which the Repsol Montesa Honda team rider aspires to take her tenth title.
In the French town of Saint Michel de Maurienne and on very difficult terrain – including drizzle at times during the first round – Laia Sanz left the trial almost decided after finishing the first round through the 15 zones with a score of 22 points less than her nearest rival. Then, the Repsol rider finished off her performance with the lowest score of the day in the second round.
The Women’s Trial World Championship includes two more trials, to be held in Kramolin (Czech Republic) and Myslenice (Poland) on 4 and 10 September, respectively. The two best results of each participant will be retained for the final classification of the championship. Previously, the European title will have been decided (28 August in Tanvald, Czech Republic) for which Laia Sanz only needs to finish fourth in this final event.
Laia Sanz
“It was a very difficult trial and given the conditions, I feel even more satisfied with the win although I must also admit that I made too many mistakes in the first round. This season, my goal is to renew the world title and of course, the European and in both cases, my situation is favourable”.
