Toni Bou and Takahisa Fujinami, who was fifth today, still among the top places in the overall classification.
The first day of the Andorra Grand Prix held today in Sant Julià de Lòria finished with Toni Bou on the second step of the podium and Takahisa Fujinami in fifth place. With this result, the Repsol Montesa Honda Team riders keep the second and third position, respectively, of the FIM Trial World Championship overall standings after five rounds.
The battle between Toni Bou and the winner of the round, Adam Raga, was very close, as they finished with a difference of only two points. The Repsol rider received 17, against 15 for his rival, including two for both of them due to exceeding the allowed time. Improving even more in the second lap, Raga received 4 points, while Bou got 7, which allowed him to score another podium.
Takahisa Fujinami was the only rider among the top 5 who was not penalized for exceeding the allowed time to complete the first lap. Nevertheless, a couple of mistakes in the last part of the second pass cost him the fourth place. Tied with Jeroni Fajardo, the result was decided by the number of zeros achieved in the 36 zones of the round.
The second day of the Andorra Grand Prix will take place tomorrow.
Toni Bou
“It is difficult to make the difference in this type of rounds, with many zones but most of them easy. The controls were strict and that’s positive, but in general the trial was too easy. I don’t like the new rules, I must say that again, and I’m having trouble getting used to them. Under these conditions you need to avoid mistakes as much as possible and try to achieve consistent results.”
Takahisa Fujinami
“I started with a feeling of tension and already in the third zone I confirmed that the controls where very strict. I was forced to change my riding style, which explains why I finished the first lap within the allowed time, contrary to what my main rivals did. In the second lap I felt better, but I made two mistakes near the end that made me lose a place.”
