The Repsol rider wins the penultimate round —Bielefeld, Germany— of the indoor FIM World Championship and secures the title.
Toni Bou achieved this Saturday his seventh X-Trial World Championship —indoor—, all of them consecutive, after winning the fourth and second-to-last round held in Bielefeld (Germany). These seven Indoor titles, together with the six he has up to now in the Outdoor World Championship, confirm Bou as the most successful rider in the history of this motorcycling speciality.
His statistics in the X-Trial World Championship are amazing: 35 wins —the last 20 consecutive—, from a total of 55 rounds. And all this at only 26 years-old.
In Bielefeld, the Repsol rider dominated both the semi-final, which he finished with zero points —the same result he had in the qualifying—, and the finale, where he received only one point for exceeding the time. Bou took part in the last phase of this round with the title already secured as Albert Cabestany was eliminated in the semi-final.
His team mate in the Repsol Montesa Honda team, Takahisa Fujinami, was not able to repeat podium result as he did in the last two rounds. Three consecutive failures in the semi-final prevented him from getting to the last part of the round.
The FIM X-Trial World Championship will come to an end next April 12 in Nice (France).
Toni Bou,
“It was a very special round. At the beginning I had some tense moments, but then I was absolutely happy at the end of the round. In the last part I was able to compete with no pressure, very comfortable and thinking only about victory. Facing the last round with the title already secured was great. The bike worked perfectly, as always. Feeling the support of my team, my friends and my family is fantastic. I can only thank them”.
Takahisa Fujinami,
“The Qualifying went well, but in the first area of the semi-final I wanted to be fast to avoid receiving a penalty due to the time and I made a mistake that made me lose focus. It was a good day for Toni [Bou] and the team but I’m not satisfied. There is one round left before the end of the championship and I have a real chance to finish in the top three, so I will try to be positive”.
