Marc Marquez is on a run of four consecutive podium finishes and is again a candidate for the win. Dani Pedrosa arrives in England having recovered well from a knock to the ankle at Brno.
-Marc Marquez has cut 22 points from the series lead in the last 3 races.
-The reigning World Champion added 2 wins in Silverstone last year and in 2010 in 125cc.
-Dani Pedrosa holds two wins at the British Grand Prix at Donington Park. His best results at Silverstone are third places in 2012 and 2013.
The MotoGP World Championship this week contests the British Grand Prix, the twelfth round of the series. After cutting 22 points off the lead in the overall standings in the last three races, closing in on Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi, Marc Marquez goes to Silverstone as one of the leading candidates to win. The Spaniard was victorious last year at the track. On the other side of the Repsol Honda Team garage, Dani Pedrosa has recovered well from the blow suffered to his left foot during practice in Brno, that prevented him from competing at full strength last time out.
In Moto3, Fabio Quartararo and Maria Herrera will need good practices on Friday and Saturday to get familiar with a track that is the longest on the calendar. Jorge Navarro, who raced at Silverstone a year ago, wants to demonstrate his potential and try to get his first podium in the World Championship -a result that eluded him at the last race by just 0.164s.
Marc Marquez,
“Brno was a difficult weekend but we took important points in the Championship and keep fighting! Silverstone isn’t one of my favourite tracks but I enjoy going there as you can feel the excitement and the history that surrounds the circuit and the area as a whole. I’ve been on the podium there the past three years including a win last year, so let’s hope the weather is good to us and we can fight for a similar result this year.”
Dani Pedrosa,
“It wasn’t our best weekend in the Czech Republic but we were able to fight our way up to 5th and we must learn from the experience. My ankle is feeling much better now – not 100% – but I’m not in as much pain as I was in Brno. Silverstone is a very fast track, it’s very flat – being an old airfield – and it has many changes of direction, so finding a setup that suits both the fast and slow corners is the challenge. As always, the British weather is the unknown factor so it’s important to keep an eye on that!”
Fabio Quartararo,
“I want to arrive at Silverstone at full strength because the result in Brno was not what we had hoped to get. I had a very good pace during practice, so this weekend I want to do the same job we did at the last race. We will have to learn the longest circuit in the World Championship quickly, in order to get good times and set the bike up for the race. Normally we study circuits in a simulator, and also by playing video games and watching videos from other years. Silverstone is a challenging circuit to learn, because it is so long, but I think it will not be as hard as at Brno, which had very tricky chicanes and was quite bumpy.”
Jorge Navarro,
“After two weeks away, I wanted to go home and to train as hard as possible over the last ten days. We come here off a very good race and with an upward progression, so I’m convinced that if in England we work as we have at recent Grands Prix, we will continue to get good results. Silverstone is a long and very fast circuit. Last year we had some problems, but I think this year we come much more prepared and we can do a good job there.”
Maria Herrera,
“The Grand Prix in the Czech Republic was very difficult for us and I have had to reset to get to England as strong as possible. After the fall in Germany it has been hard for me to get back to the level I was at before, but I’m training hard to get as strong as possible and continue to learn -that is what I have to do. Silverstone has a bit of everything, is quite fast and I hope to have a good weekend.”
