The two cars in the Repsol Classic Team that took part in the Tour Auto de France during the whole of last week, managed to finish the race, although they were delayed by small breakages; one a fault on the mileometer. Although it did not affect the engine, the two vehicles, a Ferrari 275 GTB and a Jaguar E-Type, were penalised little by little until they found themselves in the middle of the field.
The two teams, made up of De Miguel-Basagoiti (Ferrari 275) and Ortega-Alcón (Jaguar E), were two of only three Spanish cars to take the start of the French race, the most important and the toughest for classic cars in Europe. It started in the Tuileries gardens in París and was five days long, with specials against the clock in both the mountains as well as on circuits.
After setting the second best time on the first special, the broken speedometer cable on the Ferrari 275 held up De Miguel bit by bit and he dropped down the the middle of the classification. On the other hand Ortega was penalised at a time control after an electrical problem that took him away from the leading positions.
The Tour Auto attracted around 250 classic cars this time, among these representatives from the most important manufacturers in the world. Around thirty Ferraris took part, as well as a wide variety of Alfa Romeos, different models with a range of powers, and several units from other prestigious makes, such as Jaguar, Aston Martin, Ford GT 40, Porsche, Lancia, etc. The race also visited other countries, for example Luxembourg and Belgium, and one of the days was held at the Formula 1 circuit of Spa-Francorchamps.
