First row for the Repsol riders in all classes.

The first working day at the Jerez circuit has finished with Repsol riders in the first row of all three classes thanks to Pablo Nieto, Dani Pedrosa, Toni Elias and Valentino Rossi. The Friday practices, as usual, have served to intensively work on the bikes’ settings and the general feeling has been of optimism with regard to the first European GP of the season. Pablo Nieto has dominated the first timed session of the day, the 125cc, with a splendid 1.47.711 placing him on the provisional pole position of the grid ahead of Alex de Angelis and Dani Pedrosa. The Championship leader finished six tenths of a second behind Nieto thus confirming the evenness of the category. Hector Barberá finished 22nd.

The Spanish dominance has continued in the MotoGP class with Sete Gibernau clocking the fastest time and getting the provisional pole position with 1.42.285 ahead of Ukawa, Capirossi and Rossi who make up the provisional front row. The second rider of the Repsol Honda team, the American Nicky Hayden finished fifteenth.

The 250cc have finished their day with Randy de Puniet in the lead. Toni Elias, despite his left hand injury, managed to finish fourth and Fonsi Nieto sixth. At the back, for the moment, there are Porto (8th), Faubel (14th) and Olivé (16th)
