Spain GP. Race

Two victories for Repsol in Jerez thanks to Fonsi Nieto and Valentino Rossi
The Repsol riders have had a brilliant performance at the circuit of Jerez thanks to the victories of Fonsi Nieto in the 250cc and Valentino Rossi in MotoGP. The races of the Spanish GP have been highly contested in all classes and the results have made those two riders become the leading figures of the World Championship. Rossi confirmed his leadership in his class, while Nieto got the leading position in the overall classification of the 250 cc. But things haven’t been easy for neither of them. Rossi was hit during the first laps of the race by Roberts, sending him back to the eighth position. The Italian rider reacted with enormous energy and got back to the lead, while his teammate Tohru Ukawa had to fight until the last lap for a place on the rostrum, which he got in front of Capirossi. Nieto also started from behind, but he knew how to dose his power and with six laps to go, launched an attack leaving all his rivals behind. In the 125 cc, the victory was taken by the Italian Lucio Cechinello after an exciting final fight with his fellow countryman Manuel Poggiali. It was a very good race, but without a Spanish representative on the podium. Dani Pedrosa had suspension problems and suffered from the consequences of his crash on Saturday. He couldn’t be among the leading group fighting for the podium places but finished fourth. Joan Olivé finished ninth.
