Baja Spain

Stéphane Peterhansel and Nani Roma, first and second in the prologue stage of the Baja

The Baja España Madrid – Aragón has started in an impeccable manner for the drivers in the Team Repsol Mitsubishi Ralliart, as they finished the prologue stage at the circuit of Jarama in first and second position. Stéphane Peterhansel set the best time on the twisty track that was just 5km long that the organisers set up near the circuit close to Madrid, by recording a time of 4 minutes 11 seconds.
Nani Roma, the only competitor who has won on both a bike and in a car, finished this prologue in second position, just four seconds behind his team mate. The Repsol drivers who started the race with the objective of not making any mistakes in today`s timed superspecial, got an unbeatable result with which to start the first stage that will be held tomorrow. The result means that they can tackle the start of the race with a good base but today`s result should not have a big influence on the final classification, but helps the work that has to be done tomorrow, since in a race like the Baja overtaking is complicated. The dust lifted by the cars means that it is difficult to catch any slower cars that may be in front of the faster ones. In the motorbike category, Marc Coma finished in fourth position after his debut on his KTM 690 Baja. The Repsol rider was satisfied with today`s result since it is very positive and will let him tackle the first day with all his options still open to him.Tomorrow is the first timed stage and is 200km long, it takes the competitors from the Santiago Bernabeu stadium in Madrid to the Feria de Muestras de Zaragoza.
