Swiss rider Krummenacher ruins Marc Márquez’ race in the first turn

The Aragon Grand Prix lasted just a few seconds for Marc Márquez, who took his place on the starting grid as the 125cc title leader and with the pole position in his possession – achieved yesterday with an advantage of more than half a second over his nearest pursuer –. At the end of the home straight, when the young Repsol rider was taking the first turn of the Motorland circuit, the Swiss rider Randy Krummenacher failed to brake and brought down Emilio Alzamora’s protégé.

Despite trying to get back on the track, the damage caused to the brake lever and the throttle of his bike during the fall prevented him from resuming the race. With Pol Espargaró’s last minute win and second place for Nico Terol, Márquez has dropped to third in the overall standings. However, Emilio Alzamora’s protégé is still in the World Championship race, as he is just five points behind Pol Espargaró and eleven behind Nico Terol.

The three Spanish riders are neck and neck in the overall standings and will meet again in the forthcoming Japanese Grand Prix, which will be held on 3 October at the Motegi circuit.

Before the race started, the Spanish 125cc riders, including Marc Márquez, were greeted by the King Juan Carlos of Spain, a big motorcycling fan who did not want to miss this Motorcycling World Championship event.

“We were having a good weekend, keeping calm and we were well aware of how important it was to get as many points as possible. We have always been very cautious but along came Krummenacher, far too fast I think and he took me out. A shame; all of the work done ruined by a rider who hardly touched the brake as he reached the end of the straight. We had a quite long first gear, so we knew that we could lose a few metres at the start but I felt quite comfortable with that setup. But in the end, it was useless, a weekend ruined by Krummenacher. All things considered, Espargaró’s win means that, together with Terol, the three of us are very close in the overall standings. Now, we have no alternative but to think about Japan, about our next challenge.”
