Test 250 Jerez: End of the 2006 preseason for the 250 cc Repsol Honda Team riders

Porto and Shuhei Aoyama are eagerly looking forward to the start of the 2006 World Championship

The 2006 Motorcycling World Championship is just about to start and the last official tests of the 2006 preseason have ended today at the Jerez circuit for the 250cc riders. Good and bad results for the riders of the Repsol Honda Team 250cc, on this last day. While every test means a step forward for Shuhei Aoyama, in his adaptation process to the new circuits and his new life in Europe, Sebastián Porto continues immerse in the adaptation process to his new bike, but the lap times of the Argentinean rider are not yet as expected.

Shuhei Aoyama, who has been lapping today for the second time in his life on the Jerez circuit, set the eleventh fastest time, a bit more than two seconds behind Lorenzo, who was the fastest rider on both days.

Aoyama, who improved the fastest time he had set yesterday by almost one second, is progressing step by step on his Honda RS250RW.Sebastián Porto did not have good days in Jerez and today finished fourteenth, more than two seconds behind Lorenzo, although the Repsol rider keeps on looking for solutions together with his team in order to be competitive again.

Sebastián Porto:
‘The conclusion is not good, that’s for sure. I think that we’ve had a lot of problems. We continued with the same things as yesterday, we’ve made some changes, but the problems are still the same. We haven’t found the problem as such but it’s clear that there is a problem and it’s a shame because I would have liked to leave Jerez with a much better situation. Now I’ll try to check the data with the team to see which solutions we can find. My idea is to go a bit back and to try to see which differences there are with last year’s bike.’

Shuhei Aoyama:
‘Today has been a bit better than yesterday, but we’re still far behind the top riders. I still think that this is a very difficult circuit, but I guess that this is normal in my case, because this is my second day here. We’ve improved the balance of the bike a lot, both when braking in slow corners and in fast sections; I tested a lot of suspension springs, and step by step I’ve been able to improve my times. The next time we’ll be here will be for the race and I’m really looking forward to start the season.’
