The Repsol Classic Team was one of the best classified in the recent Rally Monte Carlo Historique, characterised this year by an almost total lack of snow. The five cars in the Spanish team crossed the line without any incidents and were among the best in a race won by Norway.
In spite of terrible winter weather in the rest of Europe the roads in the Mediterranesn Alps were witthut the snow that is typical in January. The participants in the XII edition of the Rally Monte Carlo Historique came across less than 10 kilometres of snow and ice. The warm temperature and the large amount of water on the days before the race to the north of the Principality melted all the snow and ice on the roads. It was a race in water and not on ice like it was last year.
In these circumstances the skills of the drivers became especially important as they had to tackle very difficult conditions. The Team Repsol Classic who started in Barcelona, completed the route without incidents and the five cars (Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Volkswagen and two Mercedes) crossed the finishing line with good partial classifications which gave them a good team classification.
Of the 30 Spanish participants the best was Juan Breda (Lancia HF) and he was at one point in 4th position, around 300 participants from all over the world took part. However an unfortunate break in his transmission meaning that he could not celebrate what would have been his first victory in this prestigious race.
After this rally the Repsol Classic Team is preparing for the next date, the Rally Mallorca at the end of March. The team will use three Renault Alpine 1.6s in this event to combat the strong representation from Germany that always takes part in this race.
