The fifth round WTCC held this weekend at Cheste saw the Repsol drivers get some more success at the wheels of their SEAT León TDis, occupying the first three positions in the first race, with Yvan Muller being the victor, followed by Tiago Monteiro and Gabriele Tarquini.
This was a good weekend for the Repsol team as it stays at the top of the overall classifications for both drivers and constructors. They have been there since the first race of the season; five victories and 11 podium finishes. Once again team spirit was its best arm as the perfect co-ordination between the drivers and engineers allowed them to occupy the first four positions in yesterday`s qualification.
This privileged situation let the Repsol drivers easily dominate the first race today. Muller overtook Tarquini on the first corner and a few laps later Monteiro moved into 2nd place, this was the order until the chequered flag. Jordi Gené was the victim of an incident on the first corner and was put out of the race, and he was therefore obliged to start the seecond race in the final position on the grid. This accident that also involved Rickard Rydell, and this adversely affected his two races as he won no points.
The best Repsol driver in the second race was Tarquini, who repeated his 3rd place after a battle with Andy Priaulx, the two overtaking each other several times. Muller and Monteiro, starting at the back of the field finished among the first eight, and so won some important points in their quest for the title. Gené on the other hand made a great fightback to finish in 11th position.
The next round of the WTCC will take place in the Czech Republic, in Brno on 20th and 21st June.
