Great result for the whole Repsol team at the circuit of Brno, where the sixth round of the WTCC was held. Three drivers managed to get on the podium at one of the least favourable circuits for the SEAT León TDI. Once again teamwork brought its rewards; Yvan Muller in 2nd place, and Gabriele Tarquini and Tiago Monteiro, with one 3rd position each gave SEAT some vital points; enabling the manufacturer to stay in the lead in both the drivers and constructors` classifications, where the Spanish team has been since the start of the season.
The Repsol driver Rickard Rydell won points in the two races, finishing 4th and 6th, whilst Jordi Gené was once again victim of an accident on the first corner in the morning race. At that instant six cars were forced out of the race, and that allowed Yvan Muller to move up to 3rd position. However, the front end of the Frenchman`s car had been damaged, and he fell down the field, something that benefitted Tarquini and Rydell. They crossed the finishing line in 3rd and 4th positions behind the two BMWs driven by Alex Zanardi and Jörg Müller.
In the second race Yvan Muller and Tiago Monteiro started at the front of the field and working as a team finished 2nd and 3rd respectively, behind the BMW driven by Sergio Hernández. Behind them and fighting in a bunch were Müller, Zanardi, Tarquini and Rydell, in the end the two Repsol drivers finished 5th and 6th, and so also won some important points in the battle for the world title.
In spite of the obvious technical disadvantages of the SEAT León TDI at the circuit of Brno, their turbos were limited to a pressure of 2.7 bars, the final result was very positive as the Repsol drivers Yvan Muller and Gabriele Tarquini head the overall in the WTCC, and SEAT is still in the lead of the constructors` classification.
The next round of the WTCC will be at the urban circuit of Oporto in Portugal on 4th – 5th July.
