The team

Racing Engineering was founded in 1998 as a racing team by Alfonso de Orleáns Borbón in Sanlucar de Barrameda, Spain. In 2000 Racing Engineering became the first Spanish team to enter the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours, and also entered the Spanish GT Championship.
In 2001 Racing Engineering entered the Le Mans 24 Hours again and had their debut in the world of single-seaters entering the new Spanish Formula 3 Championship with two cars. Racing Engineering took the teams’ championship in their first attempt and their drivers became Spanish Formula 3 Champion and Runner-up. In 2002 Racing Engineering extended their participation in the Spanish Formula 3 Championship to three cars, winning the teams’ championship for the second time, while their driver Lucas Lassere was runner-up of the series. That same season Racing Engineering took also part in the World Series by Nissan, winning the teams’ championship with their drivers Franck Montagny and Justin Wilson, both of whom moved up to the Formula One the following year. In 2003, Racing Engineering continued with their stream of success in the Spanish Formula 3, with their driver Ricardo Mauricio becoming Spanish F3 Champion and winning the teams’ championship for the third year in a row. In the World Series by Nissan, Racing Engineering became runner-up in the teams’ championship with the former Formula One driver Stéphane Sarrazin and Bas Leinders, who had been Formula One test driver. In 2004 Racing Engineering clinched once again the Spanish F3 Teams’ and Drivers’ Championship, this time with Borja García becoming champion with a car of the Andalusian team. In 2005 Racing Engineering became part of the pre-F1 class, the GP2 Series, entering Borja García and the Swiss driver Neel Jani, Red Bull driver. In their first year competing against much more experienced teams in the class, Racing Engineering achieved a respectable fifth position in the teams’ championship, including several victories. That same season, Racing Engineering took the Spanish Formula 3 Championship for the fifth year in a row. In 2006, Racing Engineering entered the GP2 Series with Adam Carroll and Javier Villa, the youngest driver of the series. The team won once again the Spanish Formula 3 Championship, making-up six titles in a row. Racing Engineering decided at the end of last season not to take part in the 2007 championship. Therefore, Racing Engineering will focus all their efforts on the 2007 GP2 Series, with Sergio Jiménez and Javier Villa. Javier Villa will be once again the youngest driver on the grid.
