Toni Bou consolidates his lead after an epic victory

Toni Bou has won the Granada Indoor Trials for the second year in a row, closing this saturday the first half of the World Championships. With this new victory the Repsol rider has established his leadership in the contest’s general classification, now six points ahead of his closest rival.
After finishing first in the qualifying lap (5 points), the title holder resolutely overcame the consequences of a hard fall at the second obstacle of the play-off, which cost him five points in that zone and another five in the next, which he was unable to ride as a deep cut in an eyebrow demanded medical attention and he was taken to a hospital in Granada at the end of the test.Takahisa Fujinami completed the Repsol team success by reaching his first podium of this season. Fujinami finished the qualifying lap with seven points, the same as Adam Raga, but his faster completion of the course (8:54 mins, 46 secs less than his rival), gave him the chance to reach the final. The fourth scoring test for the World Indoor Trials Championship will be held on March 1st in LisbonToni Bou: Two victories and a second position are a good record halfway through the championship. Today’s victory was very tough, almost incredible. I had an injury and after the hard fall I didn’t feel too well, at some point I even doubted whether I could continue, but I managed to keep my wits after the ten point penalty due to my fall. This type of incident reminds you that you can lose all of your advantage, especially when there are still thirty points to be won. We can’t deny our situation is good, but we should not take it as a definitive situation.Takahisa Fujinami: First of all, I want to congratulate Toni because winning under the conditions that he was competing in deserves its merit; he taught us a good lesson. Today I relived a situation that was very similar to the first test of the season, in Marseille. The same reason I was left out of the final, a timed play-off, now placed me on the podium. I felt quite comfortable and second position escaped me by just a bit, a mistake at the third zone from the end. I hope I can keep this performance up in future tests.
