The Repsol rider increases his advantage in the lead of the FIM Trial World Championship after achieving another victory, accompanied in the podium by Fujinami.
Toni Bou prevailed for the second consecutive day on Australian soil, taking his third victory of the fourth held this season. With this result, the Repsol rider increases his advantage on top of the Championship after a round where his team mate, Takahisa Fujinami accompanied him on the podium in third position overall.
With weather conditions much better than yesterday, the Repsol rider repeated Saturday’s victory in the second day of the Australian Grand Prix. Bou kept a close duel with Jeroni Fajardo during most of the round, but with only 3 points in the first pass through the areas and 7 in the second pass, the rider from Piera achieved his second victory of the weekend, with nearly half the points than his closest rival —Fajardo with 19—. With this result, Bou increases to 16 his points advantage in the overall standings of the Trial World Championship, ahead of Adam Raga.
Takahisa Fujinami achieved today the third position he lost yesterday for a very small margin. The Japanese rider of the Repsol Montesa Honda team completed a good first lap and, despite some mistakes in the second, he was able to secure the third position. With this result, Fujinami makes even closer the battle for the third position in the Championship standings and is now 4 points away from Cabestany and 6 behind Fajardo, third and fourth, respectively.
The next two rounds of the Trial World Championship will take place next weekend, June 2nd and 3rd, in Motegi (Japan).
Toni Bou
“As we foresaw, this second day the zones were much easier than yesterday. Nevertheless, the pressure was very high during the whole round, as Jeroni [Fajardo] was very strong and did not leave any margin for mistakes, we could not have got a better result in Australia, as to the double victory we should add the combined results of my closest rivals”.
Takahisa Fujinami
“We could say that yesterday I lost the podium for the slightest margin and today I won it for the minimum margin too. The first pass was fairly good, but in the second, which in theory was easier, I made some mistakes. When I arrived to the last zone I knew it would be decisive, because I could finish on the podium or go down to the fifth place if I made a mistake. I was able to stand the pressure and get a result that is a great boost for me just before my home Grand Prix next week”.
