The Repsol rider finishes third in the first day of the French Trial. Takahisa Fujinami is fifth and Laia Sanz gets points in the Junior category
Toni Bou keeps the lead of the Trial World Championship overall classification after finishing third in the first day of the French Grand Prix, second round of the season. The Repsol rider had the handicap to be the first to the zones, which were of intermediate difficulty, and in the second lap he received a five-point penalty that was decisive in the final outcome.
His team mate at the Repsol Montesa Honda team, Takahisa Fujinami, finished fifth. Laia Sanz overcame an adverse route and took the last points-scoring position of the Junior category.
The three Repsol riders will take part tomorrow in the second day of this round.
Toni Bou:
“It was the same as last Sunday in Germany, but the outcome was less satisfactory. I have been conditioned again by the fact of being the first to take the track, with no references of the zones. Moreover, the marshals were very strict. To finish on the podium is positive, as well as keeping the lead of the championship”.
Takahisa Fujinami:
“I think that at a riding level it was not as bad as my final points would suggest. My main problem was the marshals’ severity, as they would give a maximum penalty at the slightest touch of the limiting arrows. It was a problem for everyone, but in my case it cost me 15 points. I hope to be able to improve the result tomorrow”.
Laia Sanz:
“It was not the kind of trial I like. There were many steps and I think it was very hard. I started very well, but I got worse and in the second lap I was a bit tired. The result is satisfactory, even more than last Sunday’s, and I felt very comfortable with the bike”.
